About

BYU Bands have been an important part of Brigham Young University for more than 100 years. Their performances include on-campus concerts as well as marching/pep band performances in LaVell Edwards Stadium and the Marriott Center. Our groups can be seen and heard in regional, national, and international performances. They are also often featured on both BYU TV and KBYU TV. The international presence of our top wind band—the BYU Wind Symphony is well noted—as it is referred to as “America's most traveled University Band.”

Presently, our bands consist of: two music-major ensembles (Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band), two winter semester non-auditioned concert ensembles (University Bands), the Cougar Marching Band, and two basketball pep bands. All of these groups rehearse in either the Harris Fine Arts Center or our Cougar Marching Band Hall in LaVell Edwards Stadium. Information regarding each of these bands can be easily accessed through our HOME/ENSEMBLES page.

The mission of BYU Bands parallels that of our School of Music in that “we seek truth in great music.” We strive for educational and artistic excellence as we interact with music that ranges from the classics of the wind band world to outstanding new additions to the band repertoire. Our goal is not only to refine the performance, but to enrich the lives of both the performer and the listener as we immerse ourselves in music-making and participation in the divine gift of music.
