Pep Bands

One of the highlights of the BYU basketball season are the BYU pep bands, ensembles that generate crowd excitement and enthusiasm whenever they perform. The pep bands play a variety of jazz, pop, and rock hits, traditional cheers, the BYU fight song, and are a major contributor to school spirit and motivation. Men's and Women's home basketball contests are played in the BYU Marriott Center, and always include the bands when school is in session.

There are two Pep Bands at BYU, both under the direction of Fred McInnis. The Blue (Men's basketball) and White (Women's basketball) bands are each comprised of 30 musicians, and are highly visible and energetic at both men's and women's basketball games.

Auditions for Pep Bands are held in the middle of fall semester (mid-October), and the groups perform at all home games until the end of basketball season, occurring the middle of Winter Semester (mid-March). Members of these groups travel with the Men's and Women's teams to the Mountain West Conference and NCAA Tournament. Both of these select groups are drawn from outstanding musicians participating in the concert and marching bands during this time period. Each member receives a financial scholarship for their service.
